About
Q: So, who is this Ayaz?
A: I'm a former journalist, former digital media guy and current vagabond. I grew up in the suburbs but claim that I'm a New Yorker. I deeply enjoy olives, chocolate, bad movies, good books, kind people, mean nightcaps and hammocks.
Q: What's this blog all about?
A: In the fall of 2010 I left my job to travel. I'd been dreaming about going on a big trip for years and finally worked up the courage to take the plunge. This is my account of the journey.
Q: What's up with the name of this thing?
A: During a trip in 2004 I sent an email to friends and family jokingly titled "State of the Ayaz". It was just a quick reminder that I was still alive. The name stuck (as silly names often do) and over time the States evolved into stories of my travels.
Q: Wouldn't this blog be even better if it were written by someone smarter, funnier, wittier and more attractive?
A: Check out: http://passengerconners.com/ . Another take on this trip by my partner in crime.
